why the kangaroo hops

Long long ago in the dreamtime all kangaroos ran on four feet.

But one day while a kangaroo was sleeping under a mulga tree a great bush fire blazed across the planes. So the kangaroo ran as fast as he could but the fire was unbeatable. The kangaroo’s two front paws were badly burnt. But when the kangaroo looked up he was in the middle of a circle made out of fire. So the kangaroo slowly walked to the edge of the fire and jumped as high as he could and ran and ran until he was safe.

After that the kangaroo tried to walk on his two front paws but found that he couldn’t. And that’s why the kangaroo hops.
